Ayrton Senna Was in Love

Anyway, at the end of '93, his face was carrying lines, and it could look like a sculpture, occasionally betraying exhaustion; a hewn face, what Frank Sinatra would have called a lived in face. He might have retired and exploited the other life he had been creating and cultivating, and several things might have drawn him towards that. He was in love. She was called Adriane, young, blonde and as captivated with him as he was with her. He already had the creature comforts which genuine wealth brings, not just his own jet and pilot but a superb house in Angra dos Reis some 200 kilometres from Rio, a farm in Tatui some 120 kilometres from São Paulo and a house in Faro on the southern tip of Portugal. He was actively building a business empire, importing quality products into Brazil. He had ideas about trying to alleviate the plight of stricken children - They're everywhere in Brazil - and had mentioned this to his sister, Viviane. To retire would have been no defeat and no surrender, but something mitigated against it. On the racing track he still had great truths to prove.
